If your home already had a garage when you bought it, you probably haven't thought much about your garage door since. However, it's pretty common for garage door openers to stop working over time, and what might seem like a big problem may be easily fixed with the purchase of a new opener. If you are unsure of whether or not you need a new garage door opener, look for these five signs.
1. Your Garage Door Hums But Doesn't Open
When you press the button on your garage door opener, your garage door should open easily. If you hear a humming noise but your garage door doesn't start to open, it's probably time for a replacement.
2. Your Garage Opens and Closes Very Slowly
You probably open and close your garage every day, so you know the speed that it normally operates at. If your garage door starts to open or close a lot more slowly, then there could be a problem with your garage door opener.
3. Your Garage Only Goes Up or Down, But Not Both
You should be able to easily open or close your garage door, all from the switch on your garage door opener. Sometimes, however, a garage door has a poor connection with its opener and will only do one or the other. This is obviously an aggravation and can often be fixed by buying a new garage door opener.
4. You Don't Have the Features That You Want
New garage door openers come with lots of features, such as having lights that illuminate when there are problems with your garage door or having multiple buttons for separate garage doors. If you don't have all of the features that you want, consider swapping garage door openers so that you can take advantage of the newer features that are available.
5. Your Garage Door Opens With Too Much Force
Believe it or not, some garage doors can begin opening with too much force when they aren't working correctly. This can cause other parts of your garage door assembly to bow and otherwise become damaged. In some cases, a new garage door opener can fix this problem and can help prevent further damage to your garage door.
Garage door openers can be replaced relatively easily, so there's no reason to deal with any of these problems. Instead, consider investing in a new garage door opener so that you can use your garage door as intended. For more information, contact a company like Garage Intel, Inc. to learn more.

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
