Construction & Contractors Blog
Whether you are looking to boost your home's value or your old bathroom just needs an overhaul, this is often one of the first rooms to get a makeover with a home remodeling project. There are a ton of modern ideas, extravagant choices, and creative ways you can make the bathroom in your home more ideal, but when you have a tight budget to work with, a lot of things may seem a little too far out of reach. To get the biggest bang for whatever bucks you have to designate to a bathroom remodel project, there are a few simple remodeling tips to keep in mind.
Talk to the contractor about removing existing features on your own.
Before a remodel project ever gets underway, a home remodeling contractor will either hire someone under them to deconstruct what is already there or this will be part of their services. This is extra time on their watch, which means more money out of your pocket. If you have more time than money, it is always a good idea to ask the contractor if you can start the process of removing existing bathroom features on your own to save money. For example, you could pull up the existing flooring, take out the current vanity, or even remove old paneling.
Shop for smaller fixtures on your own.
Most contractors are pretty great at going out and finding just what you want when it comes to the new fixtures you want to see in your remodeled bathroom space. The only problem is, they are also often pressed for time. Therefore, shopping around for the best deals on these smaller fixtures may not be feasible for them. You can usually cut a lot of costs from a bathroom remodel project by spending some time shopping around for good deals on the things you want, whether it is a certain type of vanity or faucets. Plus, having these smaller items already picked out and ready will make the contractor's job easier and less time consuming, which will also save you some money.
Keep your tile choices simple.
Tile of some form is almost always a part of a bathroom remodel project, whether it is on the floor, around the shower, or situated as a backsplash around the sink. Tile options go from super cheap to incredibly expensive. Head to the home improvement store and find some tile types you like that are not expensive. Keep in mind that the more complex in design the tile is, the more expensive it will be to install. So steer clear of intricate inlays and tiny tiles that would take a contractor a lot of time to put in place.

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
