If you are getting tired of looking at the same old same old when you walk into your home every day, you may want to consider revamping your interior a bit. You may want to start with one room at a time, or you may want to make a plan for the entire home. Whatever the case may be, here are a few home remodeling trends that you may want to consider as you plan the new design for your home.
All-Wood Flooring
Carpeting is definitely not as popular as it used to be. If you are looking for a way to refresh the style of your home, you may want to consider ripping out the carpeting and replacing it with hardwood flooring. Dark wood is a popular choice, and if you want to add a touch of personal style to the floor, you can incorporate some decorative area rugs.
Open Storage Solutions
Over the years, you may have collected a very unique selection of storage jars, dishware, and cutting boards. Well, it is now time to showcase them to the world—or at least your guests. You may want to consider switching out your existing closed cabinets for some open shelving, which will allow you to arrange your dishes and other items as part of the décor. If you have decorative plants, you can even add a little bit of greenery to the open shelves to help further brighten up the space.
Colorful Kitchens
Over the past several years, a lot of homeowners—maybe even yourself—have opted for the all-white kitchen. However, a popular trend coming up as of late is bold colors in the kitchen. So, if you are renovating the kitchen, you may wish to add some colorful wallpaper, installing blue cabinets, or incorporating a red backsplash. Regardless of whether you want to add small accents or large splashes of color, you can make your kitchen look fresh and fun with a bold, vibrant look.
Reclaimed Materials
More and more homeowners are beginning to go green with their home renovations, and because of this, recycled and reclaimed materials are gaining in popularity. Speak to your remodeling contractor about finding some reclaimed wood for your shelving and/or cabinets. You can also go on a quest for antiques, such as tables, lamps, mirrors, and other pieces of furniture. Opting for this particular approach will offer a more unique and rustic appearance for your home while also minimizing your carbon footprint.

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
