Installing and updating your home with new flooring is a great DIY project you can complete over the weekend. New flooring can transform the appearance and look of a room, but it is important that you make sure you are selecting and installing the right flooring for its intended usage. Plan For Pets
As a homeowner, you may have pets that spend a great deal of time inside playing and sleeping. When your pets live inside your home, your floors need to provide for their needs in addition to handle extra stains and spots.
Pets inside your home will need to be able to gain traction on your floors, or else they run the risk of slipping and falling, or scratching the surface of your floors with their claws. For example, a dog's claws can dig into a hard wood flooring surface as they make their way around corners. Instead look at the type of flooring to choose one that is slip-resistant, such as cork flooring, but also repels stains and fluids.

If your flooring is going into a kitchen or a bathroom, you need to plan for the occurrence of water getting onto the floor. A fridge with a water connection for an ice maker has the potential to spring a leak, allowing water onto the floor. And in a bathroom, the toilet may overflow, and water can get on the floor from showering and bathing. So, it is a good idea to make sure the flooring and its manufacturer's adhesive or the adhesive you purchase to apply the flooring is resistant to a large amount of moisture. Also make sure that if you purchase a flooring that requires a separate adhesive, that the flooring and the adhesive are made by the same manufacturer or are the same brand. Many flooring and application systems need to be compatible so they don't fail and cause lifting, bubbling, and a failing floor surface.
