Restoring Your Home After Flood Damage Has Occurred

Construction & Contractors Blog

Water damage is one of the greatest threats to modern homes. However, homeowners will often not ready for the problems that flooding can cause, and this can lead to them finding that they are unprepared to handle flooding damage when it occurs to the house.

1. Does Flood Damage Always Result From Natural Disasters?

When a homeowner is thinking about the prospects of their home developing flood damage, they may imagine a river or flash flood causing this damage. However, it is more common for interior flood damage to be the result of plumbing failures inside the home. Rupture pipes and backed up plumbing can quickly cause considerable amounts of water to spill inside the home. As a result, you should always be ready to turn off the supply of water to the home as this can stop any water that may be flooding into the home through the plumbing system.

2. Is Addressing Flood Damage from Septic Water Different from Other Types of Water Damage?

Unfortunately, there can be instances where the flood damage is the result of the issues with the septic line. Water damage from the septic line will be extremely difficult to restore due to the high concentration of bacteria that may be present. In these situations, you will need to work with a flood damage service that is experienced with restoring homes that have suffered damage from septic line failures. This will include both the sanitization of the area as well as repairing the actual water damage that has occurred. Due to the risk of developing an illness, you will want to take great care to avoid touching the contaminated water and you may want to evacuate the home until it has been cleaned due to the hazard that this wastewater will pose. Luckily, this restoration may only take a day or two for professionals to do so that you can safely return to your home fairly quickly.

3. Can You Contact Flood Damage Services Overnight or During the Weekends?

When a home has suffered significant flooding damage, it will be important to ensure that repairs are started as soon as possible. Waiting even a couple of days to have the flood damage repaired can lead to significantly worse damage developing. Luckily, there is no need for you to have to wait a lengthy period of time before having these repairs started. Most flood damage services can provide emergency repairs that will allow you to start the process of handling these matters regardless of whether it is late at night or during the weekend.

Leaking Roofs and Roof Repairs

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
