Keeping Your New Dock Supplied

Construction & Contractors Blog

For individuals that live near the water and that own a boat, a functional dock can be an important addition to their property. However, there are various supplies and accessories that you will want to buy for your dock so that you can get the best performance from it and avoid some potential hazards.

Invest In Quality Dock Boxes

The dock can be an area where a substantial number of supplies and materials will need to be loaded onto and off of the boat. As a result, it is common for individuals to need fairly substantial amounts of storage space along the dock. Otherwise, they could find that the dock is far more difficult for them to effectively keep organized. When placing storage containers along the dock, you may want to choose ones that are specifically designed for use in this environment. These containers will be extremely resistant to moisture, and they will be capable of withstanding the intense heat and sunlight that the dock area may experience.

Add Lighting Systems To The Dock Area

A dock can be among the most hazardous areas of a property due to the risk of individuals tripping and falling into the water. One way to help reduce these risks is to make sure that there is sufficient lighting installed around the dock area. Luckily, there are waterproof lighting systems that can be easily installed, and some of these systems can be entirely solar-powered so that you will not have to install electrical wiring from the house to the dock. When choosing a lighting system, you may want to opt for a combination of automatic lights and manually activated ones. For maximum safety, you will want the perimeter of the dock illuminated throughout the overnight hours, and a system that automatically turns on when it gets dark can be a convenient way of meeting this basic safety need.

Keep Basic Dock Maintenance Supplies Stored

The dock will be one of the areas of the property that will require some of the most intensive maintenance of any areas on your property. Due to this requirement, you should make sure that you are stocked on the supplies that are needed to keep the dock protected from common sources of wear and damage. For example, you may want to keep a number of algae removers and other cleaning agents stored in convenient areas so that you can easily remove these substances when you notice that they are starting to grow on the surface of the dock.

Leaking Roofs and Roof Repairs

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
