Residential Metal Roofs: Are There Benefits You Should Know About?

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you're ready to replace your existing roof with something newer and less damaging to the environment, you may think asphalt shingles and tile are the only options available to you. Although asphalt shingles and tiles are popular roofing replacements today, so is metal roofing. Metal roofing can be one of the best options for you for a number of reasons. Learn more about the benefits of installing a metal roof on your house by reading the information below.

1. Their Long Life Span and Strength

If your current roof experienced problem after problem throughout the years, you may wish to install a metal roof in its place. Unlike shingles and tiles, which can corrode or deteriorate from rain, insects, and other hazards over time, most metal roofing systems have very long lifespans. In most cases, metal roofs typically last for 40–70 years before you need to replace them.

In addition to having a long lifespan, metal roofing materials are strong and durable. Although some lighter metals may potentially dent over the years, roofs made of stainless or galvanized steel may not be easily impacted by hail and other hard objects. If you live in a hail-prone area, a steel roofing system may be an option for you.

2. They Improve Environmental Health

If you're concerned about your impact on the environment, you may choose to use various green products for your home and property. Installing a metal roof on your home may be one of the ways you can protect the environment. Because of its long lifespan, metal roofing doesn't require extensive repairs over time. The fewer repairs you make, such as removing and discarding materials, may help limit your impact on the environment.

If you do need to replace your metal roof or any of its accessory components, you can recycle the material in the future. In most cases, most metal roofs already contain recycled materials, such as aluminum and steel. You may ask a roofing contractor or company if they use recycled materials before you install your new system.

If you think metal roofing is something you can use as a replacement for your current roof, reach out to a roofing contractor today. A contractor can come and examine your home to see if metal roof installation is the right choice for you. They can also give you a quote for their services and explain more about the process.

Leaking Roofs and Roof Repairs

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
