Tips for Choosing Where to Have a New Well Installed

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you have purchased property in a rural area and are planning to build a home, there is a good chance that your land is not connected to a municipal water source. Thus, to have access to running water in your new home, you will need to have a water well installed. When drilled and installed by an experienced contractor a water well can provide clean, potable water for many years without any issues. Since having a water well installed is an expensive project, everything needs to be done right.

Choosing the right location for a water well installation is essential. Use the following tips to help you choose where to install a water well on your property:

1. Choose a Location Away from Contaminants

If you have purchased land that is not connected to a municipal water source, there is a good chance that it is not connected to a municipal sewer either. This means that you will need a septic system to handle waste management. In this type of situation, you need to know where the septic tank and drain field will be located before you can choose a location to install your water well. Your water well should be installed as far away as possible from the septic tank and drain field to help ensure that the water in the well is always free from contaminants.

2. Look for High Ground

Every piece of land has its own topography, but a good rule of thumb is to have your water well installed on high ground. When a water well is installed on high ground, it is better protected. If you make the mistake of having a water well installed on a low area of your lot, the well can become contaminated if it is flooded during heavy rains. Rainwater will flow away from a water well installed on high ground.

3. Work with an Experienced Drilling Contractor

Working with an experienced drilling contractor is a simple way to ensure that your water well is installed in the right location. A drilling contractor can conduct a variety of tests to determine what is under the soil and how deep a well needs to be to provide an adequate supply of water. You can count on a drilling contractor to help you select the perfect location to have your new water well installed.

Leaking Roofs and Roof Repairs

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
