Ready For Custom Cabinets? How To Formulate A Special Look

Construction & Contractors Blog

The great thing about custom cabinets is that they can look however you want them to look because a cabinetmaker is crafting the cabinets just for you. When you choose custom cabinets, you can create whatever special look you want.

Consider the Style You Want

First, you need to consider what type of style you want for your cabinets. Do you want traditional, formal-looking cabinets, or are you looking for something more casual or modern and sleek looking? Do you want a lot of embellishments and accents on your cabinets?

It can be hard to just pull what you want your cabinets to look like from your imagination, which is why using a visual search engine, such as Pinterest, or clicking on the "Image" tab in a traditional search engine while you search for cabinets can be helpful. Save images and links to cabinets that you like. You can use those visual elements to help explain to your cabinet maker what you want and what you don't like.

Consider the Outward Color

Second, you need to consider what you want the outward color of your cabinets to look like. Do you want to paint your cabinets a solid color? Painted cabinets generally hide the natural wood grain; however, they can look very visually striking.

Do you want to stain your cabinets? Staining your cabinets will protect and seal the wood and give the wood a particular color tint. If you want a natural wood look, this is the way to go.

Sketch Out the Space

Third, you will want to start thinking about the number and type of cabinets you need, not just the style and outward appearance of the cabinets. To do this, you are going to want to sketch out your new kitchen space. As you sketch out your kitchen space, think about which area you want to be the room's focal point.

Do you want the focal point to be a large island, a large range hood, or a window? Knowing the focal point will help you build around it. As you consider your kitchen layout, think about the flow as you walk through and use your kitchen.

Take your time. It will take more than one sketch and possibly consulting with a design professional to come up with the design for your kitchen, which will help you determine the size and shapes of your cabinets.

When it comes to custom cabinets, you need to determine the style and color you want. Then you need to figure out exactly how you want to remodel your kitchen so that you can figure out the size and dimensions of your new cabinets.

Leaking Roofs and Roof Repairs

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
