Constructing A New Industrial Building For Your Company

Construction & Contractors Blog

Having an industrial building constructed can be a necessary expense for your business. However, it is easy to underestimate the unique ways in which an industrial building will be unique relative to other types of structures.

Electrical Capacity

An industrial building is likely to be filled with equipment that may have extremely high energy needs. This equipment can put a heavy strain on the electrical system of the building, and this will lead to it needing to be designed to be able to withstand the higher energy needs of these structures. Otherwise, it could be possible to damage the electrical system of the building or to cause the equipment to be unable to run at full capacity.

Ventilation

Industrial operations will often need elaborate ventilation systems that can keep workers safe from dust, chemicals, and fumes that may be an unavoidable part of their work. Furthermore, these ventilation systems may need to comply with government safety and environmental regulations. Working with an industrial builder can help to make meeting this need easier, as these professionals will understand the best practices for ventilating the type of building that you are needing to be constructed while also complying with all of the necessary safety requirements.

Fire Systems

Many of the activities that may occur in an industrial building can pose a significant fire risk. This makes the inclusion of fire safety systems a critical part of designing these buildings. Individuals may assume that this will only mean installing a fire sprinkler system in the building. However, it can also involve more substantial changes as well. An example of this may be the inclusion of firewalls and doors throughout the structure so that any flames that start can be significantly slowed so that the building can more easily be evacuated and the damage from the fire contained.

Adaptable Floor Plans

While you may have a clear understanding of the current needs of your building, it is a reality that it can be exceedingly difficult to forecast the needs of your business in the future. This is especially true for businesses that are undergoing rapid growth. Keeping the floor plan of the industrial building as open as possible can increase your options when it becomes necessary to make changes to the way that the equipment and workstations in the building are arranged. Otherwise, you may find that it could be difficult to adjust your building's interior layout to account for the current staffing and equipment needs of your growing business.

Leaking Roofs and Roof Repairs

My name is Debbie Greenberg. I’m a single woman who owns her home, and like most homeowners I dread home repairs. I’m not very handy with do-it-yourself projects around the house. I can do a few minor repairs when necessary, but for the most part I have to call in a professional. Last year I had a leak in my roof. When it rained, water would leak into my kitchen. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be anything but simple. It took over four months to finally identify the problem, and double the money I was initially quoted to fix it. The problem ended up being that the flat part of my roof didn't have shingles, but a sheeting material. I learned a bit about home roofs along the way, and that is what I want to share with you.
